A Kitchen Born from Passion

Cafe Rio was born in 2009 from a simple dream: to bring the vibrant, soulful flavors of authentic Mexican cuisine to the heart of Salt Lake City. What started as a small neighborhood cafe with just six tables has grown into one of the most beloved dining destinations in Utah.

Our founder, inspired by childhood memories of street tacos and hand-rolled burritos in the markets of Sonora, Mexico, set out to recreate those bold, honest tastes — using only the freshest local produce, slow-cooked meats, and house-made salsas crafted daily. At caferio, every recipe tells a story of tradition, community, and love.

The First Kitchen Opens

Cafe Rio opens its first location on 532 E 400 S, Salt Lake City — a cozy 6-table cafe serving handcrafted burritos, tacos, and fresh salsas to the neighborhood.

2011
